Loved ones attended a service Saturday for members of a Rocky Mount family whose deaths devastated the community.

The Swann family was found dead Aug. 3 after their power had been disconnected. Relatives identified the family as a married couple, Tracey Swann and Kenny Swann, and 20-year-old Mahala Scurlock, who Tracey had adopted, family members told WRAL News.

Investigators are examining whether a generator could have played a role.

A visitation was followed by a memorial service Saturday afternoon at Barbee's Chapel Harvest Word and Church Ministries in Chapel Hill.

Grieving family members shared their memories and heartache for Kenny Swann and Scurlock. A separate service was held for Tracey Swann.

"Your presence in my life has been a source of strength and your smile is a beacon of hope," one speaker said at the service. "And your love I will treasure forever."

The deaths come as Rocky Mount grapples with months of questions and frustrations tied to utility billing issues.
