Three people were injured in a late night house fire in Durham Friday.
According to the Durham Fire Department, at around 10:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a fire at a home on Shepherd Street. When crews arrived, they found a large amount of smoke coming out the front of the house and a large fire in the basement and the first floor.

Firefighters were able to find and remove one person who was subsequently taken to the hospital for injuries. Two other people were able to escape prior to crews' arrival.
Crews were able to get the fire under control in about 20 minutes. The department added that there was heavy fire and smoke damage through the house.
DFD said it was unsure if the Red Cross was needed at the time, and that the extent of the injuries of the three people were unknown.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
