Raleigh police said someone fired gunshots inside an apartment early Monday after kicking the door in, and the person inside the unit shot back. They did not release the names of any of the people involved.
Officers were called to a home near the corner of Gorman and Marcom streets on Monday around 5 a.m. Investigators were looking for evidence and posted caution tape around the building.

No one was injured, and no one had been arrested, police said.
"It's not the kind of thing that happens here normally," said Christopher Terry, a neighbor. "There are usually no loud parties of anything."
J.R. Fruto, who lives in another apartment nearby said the same.
"I've been here over two years and never had an issue like that," Fruto said.
But the noise level has increased lately, both men say.
"I've heard some commotion the last few weeks," Fruto said. "I had my bedroom in the living room because the neighbors were being so loud.
Terry agreed it's grown louder at night in recent weeks.
"They moved in the last couple months. (They are) always making a racket late at night when I'm trying to sleep, so I have to put headphones in," he said.
Police said there is no danger to the public.
Fruto said, "It's scary. I'm hoping that everyone is safe, my neighbors are safe."
