Parents can learn more about plans and priorities for Wake County's public schools at a State of the Schools address on Friday.
Security enhancements are a number one priority for district leaders. Superintendent Robert Taylor will speak at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School about ways to keep students safe.

The State of the Schools is happening after two schools went on lockdown on the same day in recent weeks because a weapon was found on campus.
A student at Millbrook High School was accused of bringing a loaded gun to school, and an elementary school student was accused of trying to bring a machete into East Garner Elementary.
The district says an independent security assessment of every school and administrative facility was completed in 2021. Wake County has already implemented several recommendations from those assessments and is now considering changing their lockdown procedures.
The school system said Taylor will address several other topics in Friday’s address, including support for students’ mental health and financial challenges for the district.
The State of the Schools address is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
