On Friday, the driver of a vehicle in Nash County tried to run from sheriff deputies after a traffic stop on NC-97 for improper exhaust and darkened window tint.

Police searched the vehicle and found more than 100 grams of methamphetamine, 907 grams of marijuana, and three boxes of THC extracts and vapes.

The driver, Johnathan Gonzalez, tried to run away from the scene, but was arrested by deputies, according to the Nash County Sheriff's Office.

There were two others in the vehicle, and police found a 9mm handgun in the waistband of Santos Marquez, who was the rear passenger. 

All three individuals were arrested and are being held at the Nash County Detention Center.

Johnathan Gonzalez was charged with the following:

  • Two counts Trafficking Methamphetamine
    • Possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana
      • Possession of drug paraphernalia
        • Resist Public Officer
          • Felony Maintain a vehicle to store a controlled substance

            Nataly Cordero was arrested and charged with the following:

            • Two counts Trafficking Methamphetamine
              • Possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana
                • Possession of drug paraphernalia

                  Santos Marquez was arrested and charged with the following:

                  • Two counts Trafficking Methamphetamine
                    • Possession with intent to sell/distribute
                      • Possession of drug paraphernalia
                        • Carry concealed gun

                          Cordero posted a $350,000 bond. Gonzalez and Marquez are being held at the detention center without bail due to previous drug charges. 

                          They made their first appearance Monday, June 22 in Nash County District Court.
