Fallout from last week’s Triangle Town Center shooting continues as a local company is advising its employees not to stay at hotels around the mall for an upcoming conference.

Due to several recent incidents at Triangle Town Center, located across the street from our office and near the closest hotels, we are not currently recommending stays at the (hotels) in our immediate area. We encourage guests to consider accommodations further from the office. If proximity to the office is necessary, the Hilton Garden Inn may be the best nearby option at this time."
The move comes five days after three people were injured at a shooting inside the mall; the second shooting there since April 8.
Charges have yet to be filed in connection with the shooting, though Raleigh Police Chief Rico Boyce says they should be coming “real soon.”
One possible delay in filing charges could be due to a lack of surveillance footage. During the shooting incident, police could be heard over radio traffic talking about how at least one business did not have working security cameras.
“Spoke to the manager from Express. Advised the cameras do not work,” according to Broadcastify.
Raleigh Police would not comment on the availability of surveillance footage in this incident but say having access to footage during incidents is vital to holding suspects accountable.
“Security cameras are extremely valuable to law enforcement,” Lt. David Davis said in a statement to WRAL. “They provide detectives with a clearer view of what occurred and can significantly speed up the investigative process.”
WRAL spoke to Raleigh Police last year about its Connect Raleigh program that helps residents register their at-home security cameras to give Raleigh Police instant access when needed. An investigator told WRAL it helped them catch a suspect 10 minutes after he allegedly robbed a bank.
“The time investigators spend identifying individuals involved in an incident can be reduced, allowing cases to move toward resolution more efficiently,” Lt. Davis said. “This also enables investigators manage a larger caseload effectively.”
Triangle Town Center spokesperson Jordan Barowitz offered a statement on the recent incidents.
“We are working closely with our tenants, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to improve our security systems and protocols. Specifically, we will have a uniformed and armed security presence at the site, a direct camera feed of the facility to the Raleigh PD and are working with our tenants to upgrade their security systems.”
