A man is dead after he was shot by a trooper during an investigation into a crash in Caldwell County.
According to Highway Patrol, the trooper, William Miller, was sent to a crash around 4:21 p.m. on Grace Chapel Road in Granite Falls. On the way, Miller was told by first responders at the scene that a man, later identified as 48-year-old Scott Patrick Seagle, was armed with a handgun.

Highway Patrol said Seagle continued showing the gun and was ignoring commands from Miller before he was shot. Seagle was taken to the hospital but died.
Miller was not hurt in the exchange with Seagle.
Highway Patrol said Miller will be on administrative leave per agency protocol while the State Bureau of Investigation reviews the shooting and directed any further questions to SBI.
