Wake County announced Tuesday that it has settled for $142,500 in a lawsuit involving several Public Health Department patients who were secretly filmed several years ago.
WRAL previously reported that a former medical assistant, James Perry, who was working for Wake County at the time, was arrested.

"These actions were blatantly in violation of numerous Wake County policies and applicable law." Wake County said in their statement, "After discovering these acts, the county immediately contacted the Raleigh Police Department to investigate the matter."
Perry later entered a guilty plea and served time in prison for the crime.
"The county settled these claims to avoid the high costs and stress that continued litigation could have caused for all involved." Wake County said in their statement, "Wake County remains committed to providing professional medical care to its patients and clients and to protecting their privacy and confidentiality."
