Johnston County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Wendell man accused of breaking into a Four Oaks home on Wednesday.
A court document shows Thomas Wright, 39, faces felony charges of:

- Two counts of felony breaking and entering to terrorize or injure
- Two counts of assault with serious bodily injury
- Two counts of attempted larceny
The document states Wright assaulted a 74-year-old woman and an 81-year-old man living in the home along Devils Race Track Road north of Stewart Road in Four Oaks, hitting both in the face. Both the woman and man received treatment at the hospital, according to the document.
One witness said he has a face, she won’t forget.
“I saw a man outside,” said a woman who only wanted to be known as Carrie. “I assumed he was delivery something. As soon as he opened the door I jumped up and ran to the door.”
She said she slammed the door in his face before quickly calling 911. Broadcastify Emergency Responder radio traffic captured the aftermath.
"He just tried to jump or tried to get into this woman's house and into her vehicle," dispatchers said.
It wasn’t until after officers came to take her statement that Carrie said she realized he had assaulted two people, and said for her, it could have been so much worse.
"I jumped out of bed, I slammed the door immediately, locked it immediately ...I didn't wait for something to happen...I feel like I saved myself by being able to have that reaction time," she continued.
Wright is also accused of trying to steal a 2016 Honda CRV and a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze, according to the documents.
Authorities are holding Wright on a $250,000 bond at the Johnston County Detention Center.
Wright is due in court at 2 p.m. Friday.
