Police: Missing New Bern boy found safe, mother taken into custody

A 9-year-old boy was found safe after he was reported missing in Craven County.

An Amber Alert was issued around 1 a.m. Saturday. New Bern police said he was found around 10 a.m. with his mother, 45-year-old Amber Vest. Police say the two were both found walking along Neuse Boulevard. 

The boy was with Vest when the alert was issued. She is now facing several charges, including abduction of children and misdemeanor child abuse. 

Vest is being held on a $35,000 bond, and is expected in court on Monday, April 6 at 9 a.m.
