WCNC reports a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer is recovering after being shot early Wednesday during what started as a call about a suspicious vehicle.
Police said the call came in around 12:23 a.m. from someone who reported two people acting suspiciously in a vehicle on Enderly Road. The vehicle was reported stolen.

An officer got to the scene about five minutes later, according to police, who said the officer came across one of the suspects, who pulled out a gun and fired, hitting the officer. The suspect then ran off.
The officer did not return fire. The wounded officer was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
