A man is dead and another is seriously injured after a crash involving a UTV in Sampson County, according to the State Highway Patrol.
State troopers said the crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday along Old U.S. 421 in Newton Grove. Troopers said the back driver's side tire came off the UTV, causing it to skid, run off the road and roll over.

Both Zachry Woodcock, 26, and Mark West, 55, were thrown from the vehicle, troopers said. Woodcock, who was driving the UTV, died on the scene. West was taken to Cape Fear Hospital with serious injuries. His current condition is still unknown.
Troopers said speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. However, the SHP said impairment was not a factor upon an initial investigation.
The SHP said neither Woodcock nor West wore a seatbelt.
