Wilson said he was at his little brother's baseball game when he discovered the damage to his vehicle after the game.
“As a person of color, I’m extremely upset,” Wilson said. “My feelings hurt for my little brother because for an eight-year-old to see that, he shouldn’t have to experience anything like that. Not at an age like that.”
Wilson said he did not have any confrontation with anyone at the park and has no idea why his vehicle may have been targeted. He also said no witnesses have come forward with information about who may be responsible.
According to Wilson, the incident felt like a painful reminder that racism continues to exist openly in everyday spaces.
“I literally just had this conversation with my dad and my grandfather the other day,” Wilson said. “The world is not too different from two generations ago.”
Wilson said what impacted him most was knowing his little brother was exposed to racism for the first time at such a young age. Despite that, he hopes the experience can still become a lesson for him moving forward.
“Unfortunately, it’s just how the world works,” Wilson said. “Some people may dislike you because the color of your skin or the way that you look. Just anything. It’s a learning experience for them.”
Deputies said no arrests have been made yet, and an investigation is underway.
