The rally was hosted by the Trump 47 Committee and began at 11 a.m. Vance began his speech around 1 p.m. in support of Republican U.S. Senate candidate Michael Whatley.
This is Vance's third trip to North Carolina and his second midterm-related trip. President Donald Trump visited Gastonia on Sept. 16 to rally Republican support. During that rally, both Trump and Whatley addressed public safety and attacked the Democratic candidate, former North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper. Vance addressed Cooper’s term in his speech on Monday.
“We cannot send a man who made a career out of bending a knee to the far left," said Vance. “We need to send a man who will fight for you every single day, and that’s why we’ve got to send Michael Whatley to the Senate.
Roy Cooperleading is leading by 11 percentage points in the latest Elon University poll. The poll also shows Whatley is gaining name recognition with voters.
Cooper’s campaign responded to the vice president's comments.
“It’s no surprise Whatley’s D.C. insider friends are trying to bail him out. Roy Cooper is the only candidate with plans to make stuff cost less.”
