Police: Fight between teen girls ended with two dead, five more injured in Winston-Salem

Winston-Salem police said a fight between two teenage girls led to two teens dead and five more injured on Monday.

Officers said a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old girl arranged to meet at Leinbach Park to fight. As the word of the fight began to spread, police said a group of 15 people agreed to meet at the park either to participate in the fight or observe and record it. The group included both adults and other young people, police said.

The initial fight escalated between the others at the park. Police said 16-year-old Daniel Milian and 17-year-old Erubey Medina began to argue. Two other teens, 18-year-old Joel Gamble-Toliver and 17-year-old Steven Villanueva, started to fight.

Police said both Milian and Gamble-Toliver fired shots. Milan shot towards Medina, Gamble-Toliver and others involved in the fight, resulting in several people being shot. Police said Gamble-Toliver shot back at Milan.

Medina and Milan were both shot and later died at the scene, police said.

Others injured included Gamble-Toliver, a 14-year-old girl; a 15-year-old girl; a 17-year-old girl and a 19-year-old woman. Officers said their injuries ranged from minor to serious. Their current conditions are still unknown.

On Friday, officers also arrested an additional person in connection with the fight. 

Yamilet Jimenez-Milan, 21, was arrested and charged with felony inciting to riot. Police said she is under a 24-hour hold for the charge and will have a set $50,000 bond. Villanueva was also arrested and charged as an adult with felony inciting to riot. 

Gamble-Toliver was arrested on Tuesday and charged with felony child abuse and felony riot for his involvement in the fight. 

Police said the investigation is still ongoing and more arrests are expected. 

It comes after Chief William H. Penn, Jr. said in a news conference on Wednesday that adults who watched but didn't stop the park fight would also face charges. 

"Although they're young adults, they're adults," Penn said in a Facebook reel. "We're sending a message that if you stand by, encourage, aid, or abet our juveniles into delinquent behavior, we will not tolerate it in our community."

Penn did not elaborate on what charges adults who watched the fight would face.
