The North Carolina Courage, currently tied for the final playoff spot in the NWSL, fired coach Sean Nahas on Wednesday night.
The reason was not shared.

“The North Carolina Courage remain focused on the continued development of the team and maintaining a professional, competitive environment for players, staff and supporters,” the team said in a statement.
On Thursday at 11 a.m., North Carolina Courage's chief soccer officer will provide an update on the team's search for a new coach. WRAL News will be there and plans to ask why Nahas was fired, if it was performance related and how the team came to that decision.
The Courage have five wins, four losses and five ties in 14 games this season. At 19 points, North Carolina is tied with Gotham FC for the eighth and final playoff spot, though Gotham currently would qualify for the playoffs.
The Courage play Friday at Houston. Assistant coach Nathan Thackery is expected to be the team's interim coach.
In 2023, Nahas signed a three-year extension through the 2026 season. He has been the team’s head coach since October 2021 when he took over for embattled coach Paul Riley, who was accused of misconduct in a league-wide report.
Nahas appeared on 99.9 The Fan's "The Adam Gold Show" earlier Wednesday.
The Courage didn't win any of its first five games, losing three and drawing twice. The team has played better recently with five wins, two losses and two draws to pull itself into playoff contention.
The Courage hired Ceri Bowley as the franchise's new chief soccer officer in late April.
