List: Dozens of threats made against NC schools in recent months

Local and state leaders are working to find solutions to crack down on threats against schools that have interrupted learning and frayed nerves.

Here's a rundown of everything that's happened so far this school year:

Social media threats

May 4, 2023

• Several Wake County schools
  • NC schools on alert: Vague social media threat circulates across state, targets some Wake schoolsA School Resource Officer at Heritage High School was the first to discover a social media school threat for 5/5/23 targeting several central NC schools on Friday.

March 24, 2023

• Knightdale High School
  • Someone made a social media threat against the school. The threat was determined not credible, but there will be added security. No one was named as responsible.

Feb. 23-24, 2023

• Fuquay-Varina High School
  • Someone posted a threat against the school on Snapchat on Feb. 23.
• On Feb. 24, another video threat was posted. In that instance, a student suspect was identified and sent home. That student will face school discipline and legal action.

Feb. 20, 2023

• A social media threat was made at Wake Forest Middle School

Feb. 17, 2023

• A social media threat was made at East Garner Middle School
  • Garner police responded then identified and detained the students involved in making the threatening statements.
• Police determined there was never any credible threat.

Feb. 16, 2023

• Cleveland High School (Johnston County)
  • There was a report of a social media post, which was an investigated.
• No social media threat was found.

Feb. 12, 2023

• Granville County Schools
  • A social media threat was made on Feb. 12, leading to increased security and metal detectors.
• The threat was not confirmed.

Feb. 3, 2023

Parents of students from Raleigh to Zebulon scrambled to pick up frightened children, to calm fears and to raise questions after six schools endured some level of lockdown.

• Zebulon Magnet Middle School (had several threats this week) was the first to enter a Code Red lockdown around 8:30 a.m.
  • Students were dismissed early.

East Millbrook Magnet Middle School entered a Code Red lockdown around 9:33 a.m.

• Students were allowed to go home early.

Broughton High School was on a Code Yellow lockdown.

Dillard Drive Magnet Middle School entered a code yellow lockdown around 10:45 a.m.

Dillard Drive Magnet Elementary entered a code yellow lockdown around 10:45 a.m.

Oberlin Magnet Middle School entered a code yellow lockdown around 10:45 a.m.

Zebulon GT Magnet Elementary placed on “modified code yellow” lockdown around 10:45 a.m.

Feb. 1, 2023

• Rolesville High School
  • Rolesville High School was placed under a Code Red lockdown on Feb. 1 after a staff member found a student carrying a loaded gun.

Cardinal Charter School (Wendell)

• Student brings toy gun to school

Jan. 31, 2023

• Wayne County Public Schools
  • 13-year-old arrested for threats made against multiple schools in Wayne County

Guns/weapons brought to school

March 22, 2023

• Clayton Middle School
  • A 21-year-old man was charged for bringing a gun onto campus. He said it was an accident -- he was picking up his sisters and forgot the weapon was in his pocket.

• STAR Academy (Lillington)
  • 13-year-old boy brings loaded 45-caliber handgun in backpack

Feb. 24, 2023

• Jordan High School (Durham)
  • 14-year-old found with loaded handgun in his bag.

Feb. 23, 2023

• Millbrook High School
  • Juvenile male caught with an AR-15 at a playoff basketball game against Hillside (Durham)

Feb. 17, 2023

• Culbreth Middle School (Chapel Hill)
  • A pellet gun resembling a "real" gun was confiscated from a student.

Nick Jerald's Middle School (Cumberland County)

• An unloaded .380 handgun, pocket knife and eyebrow razor blade were located.

Erwin Elementary (Harnett County)

• 9-year-old brings loaded gun in backpack.

Feb. 15, 2023

• Cleveland High School (Johnston County)
  • An unloaded gun was found in a car in the school's parking lot.

Feb. 14, 2023

• Fairview Elementary School (Rocky Mount)
  • A child brought an unloaded gun to school.
• On Feb. 15, Marvin Ray Davis, 58, was charged with failure to properly store a firearm to protect minor.

Wendell Middle School (Wendell)

• A student brought a gun to school.

WCPSS security has revealed that the student did not mean to bring harm to our school, but instead was showing the weapon to classmates.

Ayana Snead was charged with storing a firearm in a manner that was accessible to a minor.

Feb. 6, 2023

• Hillside High School (Durham)
  • Gun found inside Hillside High School student's bookbag two days before nearby shooting
• Two days prior there was a deadly shooting near Hillside High School in Durham, in which one student was killed and another injured.

Jan. 20, 2023

• Herbert Akins Rd Middle School (Fuquay-Varina)
  • A student brought an airsoft pellet gun and showed a few other students. Airsoft guns shoot non-lethal plastic pellets that still can cause injury.

Jan. 9, 2023

• Apex Middle School (Apex)
  • An airsoft bb gun was found in a student’s bookbag.

2022

Dec. 8, 2022

• Fuquay-Varina Middle School (Fuquay-Varina)
  • A juvenile brought a firearm to school, and discharged it at a window.
• Seth Jacob Lanterman-Schnei was charged with a misdemeanor for selling/giving a weapon to a minor.

Nov. 9, 2022

• Edgecombe County
  • A 19-year-old was charged after being found with gun at Southwest Edgecombe High School

Nov. 7, 2022

• Harnett County
  • A student was found with handgun at Western Harnett High School.
