The Department of Juvenile Justice will determine whether to seek a secured custody order against an 11-year-old boy accused of shooting and killing an 8-year-old girl last month.
The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office submitted a complaint with the Juvenile Justice Department, alleging two counts of larceny of a firearm and a one count of manslaughter were warranted against the juvenile suspected of killing Jenesis Dockery. She was 8 years old.

Jenesis was shot by her babysitter's 11-year-old son, according to the family's attorney.
On July 25, Jenesis was shot at a home on Mercedes Drive in Fayetteville. She died two days later.
Once the complaint is received, the juvenile court counselor reviews it and determines whether to file a juvenile petition or resolve the matter. The counselor has three options:
- File a juvenile petition to initiate court action
- Offer the juvenile a diversion
- Close the complaint without further action
On Thursday, WRAL News obtained the 911 call from the shooting.
“I didn’t know my son brought home a gun from my dad’s house and it fell out of the closet, and it shot the little girl that I’m babysitting, and I need an ambulance now,” the caller said.
The caller also described to the 911 dispatcher what happened on July 25:
Dispatcher: “What part of her body is injured?”
Caller: “Her head”
Dispatcher: “Is there more than one wound?”
Caller: “I can't tell.”
Dispatcher: “Honey, honey, is there more than one wound?”
Caller: “I can't tell. She's awake. It's in her eyebrow.”
The caller also told the dispatcher the gun used was on her countertop.
Friends of the family have set up a GoFundMe page to help with the funeral costs.
