A lot of people are hurting right now as we navigate the social distancing and closures required during this coronavirus pandemic. But, with a ninth grader of my own, one of the groups of people who have been on my heart and mind have been those high school seniors who may be missing out on the things they've looked forward to for years — that final spring sports season, prom, graduation. The list goes on.
But, as teenagers are grappling with everything they may miss this year, a video by Sydney Turner, an Apex Friendship High School senior, to her fellow students that's posted on Apex Friendship's Class of 2020 Twitter page encourages them to celebrate the good. The video, which is just over a minute long, features a collage of scenes from happier days — activities, gatherings, sports and clubs. Posted Thursday, the video had more than 11,000 views by Friday morning.

"A lot of us are hurting right now," Turner says in the video. "But take the time to celebrate all that good."
Turner tells me she started working on the video Wednesday.
"I made the video in a couple hours late on Wednesday night into early Thursday morning because it was how we were all feeling and I wanted to uplift people," she shared in an email. "I love making videos and making people smile. With the footage I did have of my peers and I, I created that video. I know it’s not a holistic reflection of my senior class, but it was the footage I had."
