A Spring Lake man has been arrested in Virginia and charged with murdering a Spring Lake woman.
William Lawrence Lee Jr., 61, of Spring Lake, was arrested in Suffolk, Virginia. Lee is charged with first-degree murder, assault on a female and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

On March 16 at 3:29 a.m. the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call for a stabbing in the 1300 block of Atomic Drive in Spring Lake. When deputies arrived, they found a woman who had been stabbed multiple times.
Beverly Williams, 50, of Spring Lake, was the victim. She was taken to the hospital and died of her injuries on March 17.
On Friday, Lee was processed at the Cumberland County Detention Center and was denied bond. At his first court appearance on Monday, he received a $750,000 secured bond for the first-degree murder charge and a $100,000 secured bond for assault on a female and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury charges.
