Spring Lake man charged with possessing child sexual abuse material

A Spring Lake man was arrested and charged with possessing child sexual abuse material Tuesday, deputies said.

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, 29-year-old Brian Whitaker, of Spring Lake, was taken into custody and charged with seven counts of disseminating obscenity and several counts of third-degree exploitation of a minor.

Documents said Whitaker was in possession of at least 14 inappropriate images or videos of minors.

Whitaker is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $225,000 bond. His first court appearance is Wednesday.
