Hillside High lockdown lifted after deputies enter school in search for suspects
A lockdown has been lifted at Durham High School after
a drug complaint in a nearby carjacking
Sky Five was over Hillside High School today while police
investigated
This investigation brought deputies inside the school with their guns
drawn
The bureau's Monica Casey joins us live from the school
with what we know about the investigation and Monica this
was all hands on deck once the call went out
Yeah Gerald it was Durham police say the sheriff's office
helped them lock down the school over here and both
agencies participated in a safety sweep of every room
The superintendent of DPS Anthony Lewis was also here on
scene to offer support
Video from Sky 5 shows Durham police and sheriff's deputy
vehicles lining the road into Hillside High School and blocking
the entrance during the lockdown
Law enforcement with long guns are standing outside and the
school district says that's how they looked going door to
door searching every room for suspects with firearms
Durham police say they were looking for suspects they believed
were
Related to a carjacking off campus who they were told
might be in the building when the lockdown was lifted
around 12:30 Superintendent Anthony Lewis was there on scene for
support
I owe it to them to just be here to
provide support to ask questions to learn from each one
of these
I think these unfortunate incidents also opportunities always learn how
we can do better he tells us in a scary
situation
This one being present for the people he serves is
a no brainer

have the best interests of our students and our staff
all 32,000 of our students best interests at heart
I dare not sit in my office while families students
our staff are in panic mode because of a lockdown
and not knowing what's going on at the time
Durham police say no weapons or drugs were found inside
the school
The carjacking suspects were not here and no one was
taken into custody here today
