We have seen heat advisories and multiple days over 100° recently. This has been one of the hottest starts to summer on record. Let's look at just how hot it has been, and we'll see if this trend will continue long term.
As of June 17, we have had 11 days at 95° or above so far this year. This is the most on record for the period from Jan. 1 through June 17. The only other years that came close were 2008, 2002 and 1941. Each of those years had eight days above 95 degrees before June 17.

Just this past week has been quite hot. We have had three days over 100°, and all but one day has been above average. In fact, the past week is tied for the warmest on record for June 11-17. These temperatures are similar to what we'd see between July 9 and July 15. We have been running a little under 9° above average. The month of June has been a little under 7° above average.
The heat persists into our Thursday with highs in the afternoon reaching the upper 90s-100. If we reach 99°, that will break the record of 98° set back in both 1944 and 2015. Fayetteville will likely reach to just below the record of 102°.
The trend of highs that are above average will likely continue into the next couple of week. The outlook for June 26 to July 2 shows above-normal temperatures for the west coast, the southern U.S. and a good stretch of the east coast.
