The dog, now affectionately called “Kingston,” was adopted on Saturday from the Animal Protection Society of Durham.
According to the APS of Durham, Kingston has been receiving treatment for a skin infection but has been "already improving quickly with care"
Kingston will continue his recovery at his new home.
"His story began with something terrible, but the rest of his story is already becoming one about a community coming together to help an animal feel safe, cared for, and loved" said Stacy Bluth, Interim Director of APS of Durham.
Durham County Animal Services is trying to identify a person of interest seen on surveillance video near the dumpster before Kingston was found.
Anyone with information about the man's identity is asked to contact the Durham County Sheriff’s Office communications center at 919-560-0900 or Animal Services at 919-560-0630.
